The historic Plaza Hotel has recently been listed for sale.
Located at 405 Victoria Street, the five-storey hotel was listed for $6.7 million late last week.
The hotel, which is nearly 100-years-old, is described as a 68 unit full service franchised boutique style hotel. The listing mentions the liquor and cannabis stores, a nail salon and adjacent parking lot.
“This property has a Heritage Designation with a European flair and has four income generators,” reads the listing.
“This is an exceptional opportunity to acquire Hospitality Property in a very thriving community.”
According to the city, the Spanish Colonial Revival-style building was built in 1927-1928.
It was popular with the Kamloops Board of Trade who were promoting Kamloops as the “Hub City” and a major tourist destination during the 1920s, states a heritage description on the city’s website.
The board's president reportedly helped raise $90,000 to build the Plaza Hotel. It soon became an essential amenity to Kamloops’ downtown area and by 1948, a 44-room expansion was underway.
Architect Ernset T. Brown designed the building. He also designed the Kamloops Lodge 44 of the Benevolent Order of the Elks, according to the city’s heritage registrar.
The City of Kamloops designated the hotel as a heritage building in 2007.
