Earlier this week, BC’s Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure announced that nine communities will be able to improve the efficiency of transportation networks.
Eleven active transportation projects in BC are receiving a portion of $85 million in funding.
That includes four in the Thompson and Shuswap areas:
Shuswap Road multi-use pathway from Sun Rivers to Sienna Ridge
Shuswap Road planning for a multi-use pathway from Sienna Ridge to La Farge
Hwy 1 west and Hwy 5 Thompson River crossings
Hwy 5 Nicola interchange pedestrian and cycle safety
The grants announced this week are an addition to the $24 million granted to 80 projects in BC this year through the Active Transportation Infrastructure Grant program.
“When people have the opportunity to use safe, efficient and affordable travel options, they take it,” said Rob Fleming, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure.
“That’s why we’re building overpasses, trail networks and bike lanes that will give a new generation new ways to travel within and between their communities.”
Two other projects in the Southern Interior received funding.
That includes Hwy 3A Kootenay Lake bridge AT improvements in Nelson and Clements Crescent intersection transit and pedestrian connectivity improvements in Peachland.
