Meet Mitchel Hughes, a proud Kamloops local who has called this city home for all of his 33 years. A passionate entrepreneur and dedicated family man, Mitchel is the heart behind Mitchies Telecom, a business focused on helping people and business owners save big on their monthly telecommunications bills.

Mitchel is driven by his “why”—his wife and child—who inspire him every single day. His favourite place in the world is right here in Kamloops, surrounded by the people he loves most. “I love this city,” Mitchel says. “My closest family members are here and I love my family.”

If you ask him where he loves to eat locally, he’s quick to shout out Kirsten’s Diner, known for its amazing food and for always putting a smile on his kid’s face.

From Delivery to Telecom

You might remember Mitchel from his days running Mitchie’s Delivery, Kamloops’ top food delivery company at the time. “The city really rallied behind us,” he recalls. “We developed a business model that focused on customer service, and Kamloops showed up for us.”

Now, with Mitchies Telecom, Mitchel is helping business owners save 35% to 55% on their monthly telecom bills through VOIP lines and corporate cell phone plans. His goal? To show that there are better, more affordable options out there—and he’s on a mission to raise brand awareness and get the word out.

Community First

When he's not helping businesses save money, Mitchel gives back by coaching his kids' sports teams and cheering on the Kamloops Blazers as a proud season ticket holder. His favourite place to unwind? His mom’s place at McGill Mini Storage, where the peaceful valley view offers a rare moment of calm.

Mitchel believes that what makes Kamloops great is its people. “Kamloops is very accepting of newcomers, and it’s a place where lifelong friendships are built.” He’d love to see more unity and less political arguing in the city, saying, “Everybody has their own beliefs, and they should be allowed to believe in what they want without creating division.”

A Few Fun Facts

• Mitchel has been sober for almost 6 years—a personal milestone he’s incredibly proud of.

• His bucket list includes helping his mom escape to somewhere warm for Christmas and conquering his fear of the steep slide at Cultus Lake Waterpark.

• If he could hang out with anyone for a day? It would be Keanu Reeves—for his humility and outlook on life.
