Interior Health has issued two drug alerts for Kamloops.
On Thursday, the health authority issued an alert warning of a high risk of overdose for a drug containing a fentanyl analog.
According to the alert, the contaminated drug looks like Dilaudid tablets and is being sold as such, or “dillies” or hydromorphone.
IH said the drug does not contain hydromorphone and contains an unknown amount of drug related to fentanyl.
“Using illicit tablets is not recommended due to the heightened risk of overdose. Be aware of risk of fakes, if not purchasing from a pharmacy,” IH said.
On Friday, a second drug alert was issued after multiple drugs tested positive for carfentanil (1.2%), fentanyl (21-50%) and/or fluorofentanyl (21-50%).
IH said the drugs come in a variety of colours and textures and are being sold as down, dope or fentanyl.
According to the alert, there is also a high risk of overdose as well as fatal overdoses.
The health authority said carfentanil is 100 times stronger than fentanyl while fluorofentanyl is around two times stronger.
IH encourages people to have their drugs tested at ASK Wellness by calling (250) 299-7219 or visiting them at 433 Tranquille Road.
