According to the RCMP, they were called to the Best Western in Merritt shortly before 6:30 am to help remove a man that had reportedly damaged a hotel room.

The man was reportedly cooperative, collected his belongings and left the hotel around 10 am after speaking with RCMP officers.

About an hour and a half later, around 11:30 am, the man was involved in a fatal two-vehicle collision outside Logan Lake.

Three people died, including the man, and the driver and passenger of the other vehicle.

The IIO will now be working to determine what role, if any, police actions or inaction may have played in the collision.

No other information is expected to be released until the investigation is completed.
