K Spin Indoor Cycling Studio is anything but your average spin class. It incorporates freehand weights, push-ups and black lights — yes, you read black lights right. Inside the spin studio, the room is pitch black other than the glow lights, graffitied walls and disco ball. This sounds like a party, and it kind of is, but follow along as we take you through what is one of the most interactive workouts Kamloops has to offer.
As you enter the studio everything about it says light and airy except for the black K Spin logos you see throughout the room. As you approach the sign-in counter, that mellow feeling quickly disappears as sounds of T-Pain and Nicki Minaj blast from the studio room — that is the moment you realize you’re about to get your butt-kicked.
As you strap on your spin shoes, tie your hair back and walk into the spin room, you can feel the energy radiating from everyone, especially from the instructor.
K spin was just an idea that Samantha Gibson, Co-Owner of K Spin, kept on the backburner until this May.
“This May our neighbor approached us to buy our house and without really thinking, we sold it! We both were ready for a change and my husband had always wanted to end up in Kamloops, but there was no spin studio, so I said ‘No Way!’ He then looked at me and said open one!” Gibson said.
Gibson is originally from Princeton and is a dental assistant by trade. After struggling to get her pre-baby body back, she signed up for spin training at her Penticton gym.
“I signed up for the training and was both nervous and excited," she said. "The training started with a master class — the music was amazing, the lights were off and I thought ‘oh my gosh, I need to do this!’”
“I instantly fell in love with it and once I started teaching I met so many friends and so many amazing uplifting people that I knew I had found my passion."
Gibson has now been teaching spin class for two-and-a-half years.
At Kamloops’ 1st boutique spin studio, don’t expect anything less than awesome. Get ready for a heart-pounding, full body 50-minute ride focused on well-being and motivation.
“K Spin is different than other studios because our passion for our community and our riders are what drive us to excel in our craft," Gibson said. "We pride ourselves on having a fun, upbeat and safe environment for everyone. We know committing to a new exercise is scary and intimidating, so we really want to be the ones to encourage our riders to live their best lives and to take the time to care for themselves."
