Aberdeen Mall is encouraging the community to clean out their closets.
With a textile recycling event on April 22, organizers are hoping to divert unwanted waste from landfills.
Items that will be accepted during the collection event include gently used clothing, footwear, accessories, bags, bedding and curtain, all in support of Diabetes Canada.
Individuals who drop off items will receive a $10 gift card to Aberdeen Mall, which is Kamloops’ largest shopping centre and home to more than 75 stores and services.
Aberdeen Mall has been encouraging waste reduction and energy conservation amongst its retailers and service providers for a number of years, as the group has taken steps to educate employees and owners on how to divert waste through metal, wood, mixed use recycling and more.
Customers have also been encouraged to do their part by sorting waste, paper and bottles/cans throughout the centre.
In 2016, Aberdeen Mall, in partnership with the Cushman and Wakefield Asset Services group of companies, launched ‘Always Consider Tomorrow,’ a green initiative to collectively reduce, divert or convert waste and to heighten community awareness.
The recycling event will take place in the Hudson’s Bay Parking Lot on April 22 from 11 am to 2 pm.
