To celebrate its 10th anniversary, the Kamloops Beach Volley Club (KBVC) is launching a new youth club program for the 2023 season.
In addition to the popular men and women’s double league, which will return Tuesday evenings at Overlander Park, the new youth category will include programming for teens aged 14 to 18.
Programming will include train and play sessions in the evenings for May and June. There will also be summer day camps in July where youth can develop their skills, learn tactics of the game and strategies to become great players.
The programs will feature group instruction and scrimmages to help players improve their technique and build confidence on the court.
In addition, the day camps will feature age-specific drills, gameplay and instruction led by world-class coaches.
“KBVC is thrilled to be celebrating our 10th anniversary by offering our first youth club program for kids 14 - 18 years old,” says Alex de Chantal, president of KBVC.
“We are so lucky to be partnering with Global Volleyball Academy to provide such a high level of coaching to our athletes. On behalf of our board of directors, we invite all youth to come and try beach volleyball!”
Behlul Yavasgel of Global Volleyball Academy is partnering with the Kamloops not-for-profit organization.
Yavasgel is a certified Volleyball Canada Level 4 Performance coach pursuing his FIVB Level 1 beach certification.
He has a diverse coaching background, he worked as an assistant coach with Wolfpack and led the TRU Women’s Volleyball team as a head coach in the 2022/2023 season.
“U14 and up is a great age group to set the building blocks and understanding of the game. Our goal at Global is to share our love for volleyball with local athletes and provide a platform for them to achieve excellence on the beach and court,” adds Yavasgel.
