Kamloops Fire Rescue responded quickly on Saturday after hearing about a family stuck in Peterson Creek.
According to Platoon Captain Darryl Cooper, just after 2:45 pm, firefighters attended to the Peterson Creek Falls. A family went hiking by the falls when they got to an area they felt they couldn't return from.
"We went out at 2:45 roughly, and we were done at about five after five," said Cooper. "Some people went up hiking by the falls, three people hiked up the falls, looks like an eight-year-old, a 12-year-old, and one adult."
"They started hiking up, and about halfway up, they got stuck and too scared to come down."
Cooper mentioned that crews two engines and a bush truck responded to the incident. They entered both sides of the trail in order to perform a rope rescue.
"This was a rope rescue. We had to rope up... We had Engine 3 come in on the one side with bush truck three, and Engine 7 go on the other side because it is hard to tell from reports what side we need to run the ropes off of."
Cooper went on to urge residents to use caution when hiking, and always stay on marked trails.
"I know it's an adventure, but we'd prefer for everybody to stay on the marked trails. It's a lot safer for everybody, you get a good workout still, nice views, and you're not going to put anybody in danger."
