The B.C. Coroners Service released the statistics for the January illicit drug overdose deaths which included some rather shocking information.
Kamloops saw its January death toll improve from 48 last year to only two this year. Two is the lowest mark the city has seen since 2011 when it hit two again.
So far in 2019, the Thompson Cariboo and Okanagan have seen only 10 combined deaths from overdose. In 12 months last year, the two regions combined for 210 deaths. As a province, B.C. went down from 130 deaths in 2018 to 90 this year.
Another key piece of information included in the report was the top relevant drug detected in most overdose deaths which proved to Fentanyl at 79.5%. Cocaine wasn't far behind as it measured in at 49.8%.
The Interior also had the fourth highest drug overdose death rate in B.C. last year with it sitting at 30.3. Vancouver Coastal was the highest at 36.8 while the Fraser was the lowest at 28.0.
