(UPDATE: Sept. 19 @ 4:37 pm) – After less than an hour from issuing a plea for information, the Kamloops RCMP say they have identified the woman believed to be involved in an alleged cat-napping situation.
“The Kamloops RCMP thanks the media and public for their assistance,” an update said.
Although the cat was returned to its owner, it is unclear why she was taken in the first place.
No other information has been provided by police at this point.
(Original story: Sept. 19 @ 3:50 pm) – The Kamloops RCMP are looking for a suspect who reportedly stole a cat from a house on St. Paul Street earlier this month.
Although Luna, the small black cat that was taken, has been tracked down, the suspect who took her has not.
Pictures of a woman and a white Dodge van have been released in an effort to identify the suspect.
Police say Luna was stolen from her backyard on the 800-block of St. Paul Street around 6:40 pm on Sept. 11.
“Security video confirmed that Luna’s disappearance wasn’t an accident,” said Cpl. Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP Detachment spokesperson.
“The video revealed that she had been coaxed from her backyard, into the alleyway behind her home, and taken by a woman in a white Dodge van.”
The cat was located earlier this week on Sept. 17 across Kamloops in the Brock area.
According to the police, a family friend was in the area when she recognized Luna in the neighbourhood and called her owner.
Police say Luna is of no particular breed and her owner is unsure why she was stolen.
Anyone who can identify the van or suspect, or is the person who took Luna, is asked to call the Kamloops RCMP detachment at (250) 828-3000 and refer to file number 2024-30399.
