Kamloops RCMP, BC Coroners Service investigating discovery of remains

The Kamloops RCMP say it is believed that human bones were found in the Mission Flats area over the weekend.

There is a police presence in an area near the landfill Monday morning after the detachment received a call about the discovery of “skeletal remains” on Sunday afternoon.

The Forensic Identification Services Unit and BC Coroners Service are investigating and the preliminary belief is that the bones may be human, however, no other details are expected to be released at this time.

Cpl. Crystal Evelyn, spokesperson for the detachment, says the investigation is still in its “very early stages.”

“Who the remains belong to and the circumstances surrounding their discovery are part of the ongoing investigation occurring in consultation with the BC Coroners Service,” Cpl. Evelyn says.

Anyone with information that may be related to this incident is asked to call the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at (250) 828-3000 and reference file 2024-5687.

The BC Coroners Service is conducting a concurrent investigation.
