Mounties are investigating after receiving reports of drinks being tampered with at a downtown establishment.
The suspected drink tampering happened between June 24 and 28 after four people, including both men and women patrons and employees of the establishment, reported symptoms consistent with being drugged.
Police said one victim reported meeting an unknown man shortly before experiencing “reduced cognitive alertness" and an unusual taste in their drink.
“The Kamloops RCMP has obtained surveillance footage and is actively working to identify additional victims and any persons of interest,” said Cpl. Dana Napier in a news release.
“Investigators are also in the process of speaking with witnesses and reviewing further evidence.”
Although no other reports have been submitted by the public, the RCMP are reminding people to take precautions when drinking alcohol and other beverages in public spaces.
People are reminded to never leave drinks unattended and not to accept drinks from strangers.
All Kamloops residents are encouraged to stay with trusted friends and look out for one another when out at the pubs and other establishments.
If you suspect you’ve been drugged, try your best to seek medical assistance as soon as possible, the RCMP said.
Mounties remind residents to report any suspicious activity to police so investigations and case files can be created.
Anyone who believes they may have been affected or has information about the drink tampering at the end of June, or at any time, is urged to call the Kamloops RCMP at (250) 828-3000 and refer to file 2025-21075.
Kamloops is not the only city to publicly acknowledge drink tampering and subsequent investigations this year. In January, police in Fernie launched similar investigations and two months later, police sounded the alarm about the same issue at nightclubs in Nanaimo.
