Just after midnight today, Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to a Brentwood Avenue residence for a report of shots heard and a person screaming.
Officers at the scene located a man in his 30s who was suffering from life-threatening injuries consistent with a gunshot wound, and he was taken to hospital.
A suspect was allegedly observed running towards the river, and members of the Southeast District Emergency Response Team and the Police Dog Service Unit assisted frontline officers at the scene as they searched for a suspect.
So far, no one has been located.
“The investigation is still in its infancy and a visible police presence remains in the area while officers secure the scene, canvass the neighbourhood, and collect evidence that may be related,” said Cpl. Crystal Evelyn, the Kamloops RCMP spokesperson.
“We are requesting that residents please contact police as soon as possible if they have any security or dash camera footage from the area, or if they heard or saw anything that may be related.”
The Kamloops General Investigations Support Team, Serious Crimes Unit and Forensic Identification Service Unit are assisting to advance the investigation.
At this time, the shooting appears to be targeted.
