Charges will not be recommended in an alleged assault investigation involving a City of Kamloops official.
The Kamloops RCMP say the alleged assault was reported at the end of June by another city official.
Although the police do not share names, reports from that time show that mayor Hamer-Jackson alleged a local journalist of assault at a downtown bar.
On Wednesday, the Kamloops RCMP concluded their investigation.
In a news release the RCMP said that while “unwanted contact” did happen, it did not constitute assault.
As a result, a criminal charge will not be advanced.
“Our investigators completed a thorough investigation which included reviewing video and speaking with witnesses, along with assessing all circumstances of this incident,” said Superintendent Jeffery Pelley, Officer in Charge of the Kamloops RCMP.
“The public are reminded to respect personal boundaries and not make unwanted contact.”
