(UPDATE: Oct. 3 @ 1:50 pm) –The Kamloops RCMP say the police presence in Valleyview has been cleared.
A report of a potential firearm in the area of Valleyview Drive and Oriole Road was the cause for the police presence and a hold and secure at Valleyview Secondary School.
In an update provided shortly after 1:30 pm, the Kamloops RCMP apprehended two youth as a part of the investigation after two replica handguns were located near the school.
No injuries were reported and the two youths were later released to their parents.
The RCMP is working with the school as part of the ongoing investigation.
“It is thankful to the public and the students for their cooperation during the police presence,” police said in a news release.
Anyone with information that may be related to the investigation is asked to call the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at (250) 828-3000 and reference file 2024-32983.
(Original story: Oct. 3 @ 12:39 pm) – The Kamloops RCMP are responding to a report of a person potentially in possession of a firearm in the Valleyveiw area.
On Thursday, around noon, the RCMP said there was a large police presence near Valleyview Drive and Oriole Road.
People are being asked to avoid the area.
The incident began unfolding around 11:30 am, which triggered a hold and secure to be initiated at a nearby school “out of an abundance of caution.”
Valleyview Secondary is the only school in the immediate area.
Police remain in the area and more details are expected to be released once the RCMP know more.
