The Kamloops RCMP are looking for witnesses of the noticeable fire that broke out in Strathcona Park Tuesday afternoon.
The fire was reported just before 4 pm near the intersection of Arbutus Street and Powers Road.
According to the Kamloops RCMP, who worked alongside Kamloops Fire Rescue, the fire grew to about 100 metres by 100 metres.
Fortunately, KFR got the fire contained by about 5 pm.
Police suspect the fire was started by an arsonist.
“We are treating this incident as suspicious and have identified a person of interest in relation to this fire,” said Cpl. Dana Napier, Kamloops RCMP Spokesperson.
“We will continue to work with KFR to establish the cause of the fire, and if it is related to any other fires in the downtown area which is all part of the ongoing investigation.”
Anyone with information is asked to please call the Kamloops RCMP at file (250) 828-3000 and cite file 2025-21802.
Members of the community posted pictures and videos of the fire to social media, including a now-deleted post of what appears to be someone intentionally starting the fire.
