UPDATE: Police situation at Acadian Inn ends with arrest

(UPDATE: Oct. 4 @ 2:20 pm) - The police situation at the Acadian Inn motel has come to an end, the RCMP has confirmed.

It began around 9 am when an officer saw a man who had an unendorsed warrant for his arrest enter the motel on Columbia Avenue.

The RCMP flooded the area and the police service dog was brought in as well in an effort to bring the man into custody.

Shortly after 11:30 am, 25-year-old Tristan Fernandez was arrested and will be held in custody until he appears in court.

"Fernandez was wanted on the recently issued warrant following an investigation into a robbery on Aug. 3, 2021, near the 1300 block of Battle Street," explained an RCMP release.

Some RCMP officers are still at the scene investigating and no further information will be released at this time.

(Original story: Oct. 4 @ 11 am) - Kamloops residents are being asked to stay away from an active police situation.

Officers swarmed the Acadian Inn motel earlier this morning and remain at the scene as part of “an ongoing criminal investigation.”

“Although no danger is expected to the public at this time, residents are asked to please avoid the area while police are on the scene,” said an RCMP release.

The release added that some traffic may temporarily be rerouted.

KamloopsNow will update this story as more information becomes available.
