(UPDATE: September 13th @ 4 p.m.) — Kamloops RCMP have arrested a suspect that allegedly robbed an Australian tourist on September 7th.
RCMP received several tips from the public after publicizing surveillance photos of a male earlier today.
A 37-year-old man from Kamloops is in custody and will go before a judge tomorrow. He was previously known to police.
"Kamloops RCMP would like to thank the public for their support in identifying this suspect," Cpl. Jodie Shelkie said in a media release.
(UPDATE: September 13th @ 8:35 a.m.) — Kamloops RCMP has provided photos of the suspect who robbed an elderly Australian tourist.
The incident happened on Thursday, September 7th on the corner of 3rd Avenue and Lansdowne Street.
Other than the photos, no new information has been made available.
(Original story: September 8th @ 6:20 a.m.) - RCMP are requesting the public’s assistance to identify a male robbery suspect.
The man allegedly robbed an elderly Australian tourist near the corner of 3rd Avenue and Lansdowne Street.
The incident happened at approximately 7:25 p.m. on Thursday, when the tourist was walking near the corner of that intersection.
At that point, the male suspect snatched her purse from her hands and quickly fled.
A local bystander attempted to chase down the suspect, but was unable to apprehend him.
The purse and some contents were eventually located a short distance away, but her wallet remains outstanding.
The suspect is described as a Caucasian male in his mid 20s who is between 5’9” and 5’11” and has a tall, slim build.
At the time, the suspect was wearing jean shorts, a black t-shirt and a backwards beige hat.
