An attempted break-in to a residence on Friday night was foiled when the homeowner caught the suspect in the act. Police were called to the 5000 block of East Trans Canada Highway around 6 pm after the unknown suspect broke into the home’s garage. According to the RCMP, the suspect fought with the homeowner when confronted, then fled on a nearby walking path. A police dog found a flashlight and break-in tools nearby, but the suspect was not located. He’s described as a man between 5’10” and 6’0”, 35-45 years of age and dressed in all dark clothing with a balaclava.
On Saturday morning, police were called about a man with an axe who was allegedly freaking out and smashing things. Around 10 am, officers attended the 1100 block of 13th Street where a vehicle and house had been damaged. A suspect was located and arrested for offences related to threats, weapons and mischief. He was later released with a court date and conditions. Charges are expected.
Around 3:25 pm on Saturday, officers were called to the 1900 block of Curlew Road where a suspicious truck was suspected of being associated with a trailer and snowmobile that were being hidden around the back of a property. Police found the truck nearby and detained all those present. Further investigation revealed that the snowmobile was stolen, but it did not have any links to the truck. Mounties were able to reunite the snowmobile with its proper owner in Vernon.
