Kamloops Ribfest, Hot Nite in the City car show start Friday

Two exciting events are taking over downtown Kamloops this weekend.

Ribfest kicked off in Riverside Park on Friday and will run until Sunday.

Six different teams will be serving up barbecue and will be competing for best ribs, best sauce and people’s choice awards.

There will also be a family-fun zone, live entertainment, a 50/50 raffle with proceeds supporting the Rotary Club of Kamloops Daybreak’s various initiatives.

The family-friendly and free event runs from 11 am to 10 pm Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

This year marks the last year that the Rotary Club will be hosting the event.

Meanwhile, the heart of downtown will be transformed into a car lover’s dream.

The 31st annual Hot Nite in the city will be happening Friday and Saturday.

Six city blocks will be transformed into an awesome display of classic muscle cars, rad custom vehicles, collector cars and trucks, motorcycles and so much more.

Registration for the annual poker run starts at 2 pm on Aug.8 at the Plaza Hotel. The power run will start at 3 pm and will take roughly two and a half hours.

Later that evening, at 7 pm, the fun really kicks off with drag races and a truck show on Victoria Street between 5th and 6th Avenue at 9:30 pm.

The big day, which will see six city blocks closed down for the massive show and shine, begins at 9 am and will continue on until 5 pm.

Awards will be handed out at the stage on the corner of 4th Avenue and Victoria Street at 4 pm.
