The Kamloops BC SPCA’s main focus for 2018 is still finding as many homes as possible for all of the abandoned and abused animals in our area.
Last year, 1522 animals were welcomed at the Kamloops SPCA, which was an increase from the previous year. The Kamloops location had 733 animals that were locally adopted and another 385 were transferred to other SPCA locations for adoption.
Locally adopted animals included 122 dogs, 304 kittens, 201 cats, 78 puppies, 12 rabbits, and 16 exotic birds and small animals.
In addition to a good number of adoptions, animal lovers joined together and attended many fundraisers in Kamloops throughout 2017. These events were not only to help our furry friends find forever homes, but the community also came together to try and meet the fundraising goal for the highly anticipated capital campaign to build the new BC SPCA Kamloops & District Community Animal Centre.
This centre is much needed as the original SPCA building in Kamloops is aged and deficient. The new facility is still pending final approval from head office, but the Kamloops SPCA is looking forward to the outcome given this coming February.
If this project is carried out, the new facility will include a 2,200 sq ft spay and neuter clinic, communal indoor and outdoor areas for cats, socialization space for dogs and numerous other modern amenities to improve animal welfare. The centre will be located on 2.2 acres along Tranquille Road.
