Kamloops City Council has officially adopted its 10-year Cultural Strategic Plan.
The plan was adopted during last week’s council meeting and staff will not begin engaging with internal and stakeholders to determine how to make the plan’s actions a reality, says a news release.
The plan was last updated in 2003. Now that it is updated, the plan will identify different strategies and recommendations that will shape Kamloops’ cultural landscape.
According to the city, the updated plan offers "strategic directions" to support Kamloops' local cultural sector's and the city's livability.
“The City wishes to thank the participants who contributed feedback throughout the project,” the city says in the release.
“The engagement was unprecedented as residents shared what culture means to them, where they experience culture, and what opportunities or barriers they experience.”
The final plan identifies six strategic directions, which include:
Strengthen tourism, social, and economic impacts through cultural development
Improve arts infrastructure and invest in cultural capital
Attract and support cultural workers and creative entrepreneurs
Reduce barriers to arts access and cultural participation
Celebrate and share stories of this place
Animate spaces through creative placemaking
