A rezoning application for the property that is home to the Tournament Inn was given first and second readings this week.
On Tuesday, Kamloops City Council supported rezoning 1893 Trans-Canada Highway E. from the C3 (Highway Commercial) zone to the C1 (General Commercial) in order to permit a future mixed-use development.
According to a staff report presented to city council, the applicant is wanting to build two six-storey buildings and a third building, which would be one-storey with a small two-storey section.
This will eventually require a development variance because the maximum height under the C1 zones is four storeys.
“The two larger buildings are proposed to be an 80-room hotel and a 60-unit multi-family residential building,” says the staff report.
The report says a covenant will also need to be registered with the city because the property is within the South Thompson flood plain.
Next steps will see third reading given and the bylaw adopted at a future meeting.
