A Kamloops man was killed over the weekend after a routine skydiving excursion went horribly wrong.
According to Dean Schryver, manager of the Kamloops Skydivers Sport Parachute Club, the issue occurred sometime during landing on Saturday.
"There was an incident on September 28, 2019, involving an experienced skydiver," worte Schryver. "Saturday afternoon an experienced skydiver had an unknown issue landing his parachute, the incident resulted in a fatality."
Kamloops RCMP, the BC Ambulance Service, and Kamloops Fire Rescue all attended the scene. Friends and family identified the man as local lawyer Don Campbell.
"Kamloops Fire and Rescue, BC Ambulance Services and RCMP attended the scene and provided all life-saving services possible. The absolute cause for the incident is unknown and in the hands of the RCMP and Coroners Service."
"Kamloops Sport Parachute Club would like to extend gratitude To the BC Ambulance Service, Kamloops Fire, and Rescue for the incredible response time and services in assisting our friend. Much thanks to the Kamloops samaritans for the first on the scene to provide assistance."
Police and the BC Coroners Service continue to investigate, though Schryver didn't mention any new leads into what happened.
"Unfortunately we are assisting the RCMP and Coroners Service in their investigation and are reserving all other comments until the investigation incomplete."
