Kamloops man, 23, sent back to jail for accessing the internet

A Kamloops man was sentenced to two years in jail just two days after being arrested last week.

Stephen Timothy Bittner, 23, was arrested when the Kamloops RCMP executed a search warrant at his residence in the 1400 block of Halston Avenue on Feb. 19.

According to police, Bittner was found to be in contradiction to the terms of a probation order he was bound by as a result of his previous conviction related to possession of child pornography.

Cpl. Crystal Evelyn explained that officers conducting the search warrant “located electronic devices that were capable of accessing the internet.”

He also admitted to police that he possessed child sex-abuse material, an RCMP release noted.

Both the access to the internet and possession of child pornography were failures to comply with his release conditions.

Bittner was held for a bail hearing and pleaded guilty to two counts of failure to comply with a probation order.

He was sentenced to two years in jail, less a day, plus three more years of probation.
