A Kamloops man is facing charges after an incident late Friday night that saw him allegedly crash into a police cruiser while trying to flee officers.
According to the RCMP, an officer was driving on the Halston Connector Road around 10:30 pm when he spotted a black SUV with plates that didn’t match the vehicle.
He started to follow the vehicle southbound onto Schubert Drive, where a second officer was travelling northbound.
They then attempted to conduct a traffic stop when it was safe to do so, police explained.
However, the driver, now identified as 28-year-old Colton Reeb, tried to evade police and ended up colliding with the northbound officer’s cruiser.
After swerving into a residential driveway, Reeb allegedly fled on foot from the SUV before being tracked down and arrested.
“Thankfully, the officer involved in the collision was not injured and following a brief foot pursuit, caught Reeb and took him into custody,” noted Staff Sgt. Janelle Shoihet.
Reeb appeared in court on Saturday morning and has been charged with one count each of flight from police and obstructing a peace officer.
He has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court again on Thursday.
