Kamloops man charged with murder 2 years after fatal shooting

Two years and a week after a woman was killed in a Kamloops shooting, her accused killer has been charged.

Austin Alexander Neil Eyres was charged with second-degree murder earlier today in relation to the death of Chaneill Satow.

According to the Kamloops RCMP, Eyres is currently in custody “on an unrelated matter.”

“This investigation was a priority for the Kamloops Serious Crime Unit, who worked diligently to advance the case for the past two years and present it to Crown Counsel for charge assessment,” said Supt. Jeff Pelley.

“This charge is the culmination of a thorough investigation and the resources that were allocated to it.”

Shortly after 6 pm on May 21, 2023, emergency crews were called to the 800 block of Valhalla Drive for a report of a woman suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim, since identified as Satow, was rushed to hospital with critical injuries and was later pronounced dead.

The Kamloops RCMP says no further information will be released as the matter is now before the courts.
