Property tax notices are now in the mail for homeowners across Kamloops.
The city says notices should begin arriving in mailboxes and email inboxes this week.
Payments for property taxes must be received by the city by Tuesday, July 2 to avoid a 10% late payment penalty.
Homeowners can pay their property tax by dropping a cheque off at city hall, mailing cheques to the city, paying through online or telephone banking, in-person at a bank or with a credit card online (1.75% service fee will apply).
City hall is open 8 am to 4 pm Monday to Friday for in-person payments. The city will be adding evening service hours from 4-6 pm on June 24 to June 28 and on July 2.
“Please note that City Hall will be closed on Monday, July 1, for the Canada Day holiday,” the city says.
With the amount of construction happening downtown, the city is encouraging residents to consider paying their property taxes another way, however.
In-person payments can be made at the Tournament Capital Centre from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm, Monday to Friday.
Cheques can be dropped off at dropbox locations at Tournament Capital Centre, North Shore Community Policing Office, Westsyde Pool and Fitness Centre during those facility hours.
This year’s notice includes a tax rate increase of 9.55%, which was adopted by city council earlier this month.
The city reminds residents that Home Owner Grant applications are available on the province’s website or by calling 1-888-355-2700.
Applications must be received by the province before the July 2 deadline.
