A Kamloops psychiatrist is in hot water following an incident that happened with one of his former patients.
According to a disciplinary report from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC, Dr. Charles James Marke admitted to professional misconduct of a sexual nature by failing to maintain boundaries expected of a registrant practicing in the province.
Marke acknowledged that one month after treatment with a patient had concluded, he contacted a former patient for personal and social reasons, even inviting her to his residence. When she came over, they engaged in personal conversations, sat on his couch, and kissed.
"Due to the power imbalance that existed between him and the complainant, the Inquiry Committee was critical of Dr. Marke’s admitted conduct," said the report. "The Inquiry Committee determined a disciplinary outcome was appropriate."
Following a disciplinary citation, Marke entered into a Consent Agreement where he agreed to a formal reprimand. He will also need to reapply for licensure with the College, participate in continuing medical education and professional development in the area of ethics and professionalism, and more if he wants to practice again.
