The City of Kamloops is inviting residents to the first ever Clean the Beach event this weekend.
Residents are invited to the family-friendly event which will see the clean up of the riverbanks near Riverside Park on Sunday, April 21. Residents should arrive by 11 am.
All garbage collection materials, including grout maps and instructions, will be provided by city staff but participants are recommended to wear closed-toed shoes and bring a high visibility jacket or vest, if they have it.
According to the news release, beach sweeps will be done in advance of the event to remove sharps and potentially harmful materials.
“Together, we can have a positive impact on our local environment and make our beaches and riverbanks cleaner, safer, and more beautiful for all to enjoy,” said Ty Helgason, the City’s Social and Community Development Supervisor.
“Our goal is to have a fun and successful event that we can build on year over year as we expand our shoreline cleanup."
The event will end with an event at Riverside Park, which will include a bouncy castle, face painting, live music, educational booths and a volunteer barbeque.
Kamloops City Council endorsed the idea in mid-March.
