(UPDATE: Aug. 23 @ 12 pm) - The Kamloops Moonlight Movie Night scheduled for tomorrow has been cancelled.
Interior Savings made the decision due to the evacuation orders and alerts caused by the wildfires in the Thompson-Nicola Regional District.
“Our heart goes out to all residents in the region and throughout British Columbia who are impacted by surrounding wildfires during this time of uncertainty,” a spokesperson for the credit union said.
“We would like to thank our community partner, the Chris Rose Therapy Centre for Autism, for working closely with us as we continue to navigate the rapidly changing conditions from the BC Wildfires.”
To lend their support to the community, Interior Savings has partnered with Gulf and Fraser to match up to $20,000 in donations to the United Way’s United for BC Wildfire Recovery Fund. More information can be found here.
Interior Savings added: “We appreciate your understanding and continued support as we navigate the impacts of the BC wildfires and the smoky conditions.”
(Original story: July 25 @ 5:30 am) - The Chris Rose Therapy Centre for Autism is hosting a movie night fundraiser next month.
Interior Savings has partnered with the centre to host the Moonlight Movie Tour, which will feature a family-friendly movie, snacks and pre-movie activities to raise funds for the centre.
On Thursday, Aug. 24, the community is encouraged to stop by Prince Charles Park at 1145 Nicola St. to catch a viewing of The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
Gates open at 7 pm and the movie is scheduled to start around 8:30 pm. Everyone is encouraged to arrive early to get a good spot.
A concession stand will be open, offering all your favourite movie snacks.
While there is no charge to watch the movie, community members are encouraged to donate $3 per person or $10 per family to enjoy the night.
All funds raised will go towards the centre and all its clients.
“Proceeds from this event will help to provide the children and youth that attend the centre the intensive therapeutic programming they require, such as life skills, music therapy and speech language therapy,” says Wanda Eddy, executive director of the centre.
Everyone is encouraged to bring cash as well as their own lawn chairs or blankets.
