After almost five months of construction, Kamloops residents can now access the city’s newest water park.
On Friday, the city announced that construction has finished at the new accessible water park at Albert McGowan Park.
Work on the park started last September and saw new accessible play features, shade structures, and soft rubber surfacing built. It opened in November 2024.
Construction on the water park started this spring.
The aging water park was replaced with colourful new water features and modern surfacing.
“This project is about more than just upgrades. It’s about creating a space where everyone can come together to play, cool off, and feel welcome,” said Jeff Putnam, the city’s parks and streets manager.
“By investing in inclusive and sustainable facilities, we’re building parks for the future.”
The new park also includes a recirculating water system to help with water conservation.
The system treats and reuses water throughout the day.
According to the city, a small amount of water is released during daily cleaning cycles, but the water is directed to the sewer, as it is treated similarly to swimming pool water.
Residents across the city can now access the water park from 10 am to 8 pm until the park closes for the season on Sunday, Sept. 7.
