Kamloops woman rescued after suffering heat stroke while hiking

A woman was successfully rescued after suffering heat exposure while hiking on Canada Day.

According to the Kamloops Search and Rescue team, they were called by the RCMP around 4:30 pm to help locate and evacuate the woman.

She was hiking in the Tranquille Slot Canyons and the temperature was between 35ºC and 38ºC at the time.

The KSAR team were assisted by an ER physician and deployed to the scene.

The woman was found quickly and provided treatment by the team who improved a rapid cooling system using a tarp, ice cubes and cold water.

“Credit goes to the hiker for recognizing when to ask for help and for not pushing herself to the point where a rescue would have been much more difficult and critical,” KSAR said.

They helped the woman out of the canyon and handed over to her family.
