Five people, including four from Kamloops and one from Cache Creek, are facing a variety of drugs and weapon charges following a lengthy inter-agency investigation.
The Kamloops RCMP’s targeted enforcement unit (TEU) started the work in April 2020 with the investigation of street-level drug dealing of small amounts of drugs.
“TEU was able to follow their trail and identify those responsible for transporting large quantities of controlled substances into the community,” explained Sgt. Todd Woon.
Thanks to those efforts, TEU was able to execute a search warrant at an address in the 600 block of Comox Avenue in July 2020 and officers seized cocaine, fentanyl, a loaded prohibited firearm and more.
At that point, investigators identified a suspected drug supplier in New Westminster to be responsible for supplying controlled substances to the Kamloops area.
The New Westminster Police Department and Kamloops RCMP TEU entered into a cooperative investigation focusing on suspected drug traffickers in both jurisdictions.
In August 2020, the joint effort produced an arrest of a Cherry Creek man near Kamloops with more than a kilogram of cocaine.
The following month, the partnership led to the arrest of a Kamloops man as he returned from New Westminster with two kilograms of cocaine in his vehicle.
A subsequent search of his property in the 1300 block of Kinross Place in Kamloops produced two kilograms of methamphetamine and one kilogram of cocaine.
A second property associated with the investigation, located in the 100 block of Holloway Drive in Tobiano, was also searched and yielded similar quantities of controlled substances.
“The impact of stopping those drugs from ever hitting the streets of Kamloops is immeasurable,” added Sgt. Woon.
“Interrupting the supply chains into Kamloops helps prevent organized crime from developing a strong presence and increasing violence in the community.”
Another search warrant was executed in September 2020, this time at a residence in New Westminster, which resulted in the seizure of around 13 kilograms of cocaine, 10 kilograms of methamphetamine, two handguns and $300,000.
The investigation has now concluded and the following Thompson residents have now had multiple charges levied against them:
