Logan Lake receives $1M grant for campground expansion

The District of Logan Lake has been awarded a grant of nearly $1 million towards the expansion of their municipal campground.

The first phase of the expansion will include new campsites, washroom and shower facilities as well as recognition and inclusion of local Indigenous culture with a focus on increasing accessibility.

All that will be made possible thanks to a grant of $992,285 from BC’s Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport.

Logan Lake mayor Robin Smith says the expansion is the first step in the development of a year-round outdoor recreation industry in the area.

“This expansion will help with our recovery after the 2021 Tremont Creek wildfire which impacted many of our surrounding trails by increasing access and building exposure to local attractions,” says Smith

“Every experience has to start with a strong foundation and the first phase of the campground expansion establishes Logan Lake as a year-round tourist destination of interest.”

A release from the district says the campground has had a master plan in place since 2021 to increase services, accessibility and educational opportunities as well as addressing some of the accommodation shortages.

Data shows that the campground, which has 50 lake-view sites, operates at a seasonal occupancy rate of 80% and during the peak season in July and August, that can jump up to 92% with 100 n flights completely sold out.

“Having no availability at the campsite forces campground staff to turn away visitors, leaving the Logan Lake community with a missed opportunity to capture the visitor revenue,” says the release.

The long-term plan for the campground will see 45 new sites, one large roundhouse and eight smaller cabins built.

The district hopes to secure funding for the second phase of the construction project which will see additional cabins added to the site to allow for year-round accommodation.
