Major Crime Unit investigating after a dead body was found near Paul Lake

The Major Crime Unit (MCU) is seeking information from the public after a dead man was found in the Paul Lake area.

According to a news release issued on Tuesday, the local RCMP arrested three men outside of Kamloops on April 25 as part of an investigation into a stolen vehicle.

The men were arrested for possession of stolen property and breaching court orders. A house on the North Shore was linked to the arrested men and was secured by the RCMP pending a judicial authorization to search it.

The news release said “unfolding circumstances” around the investigation resulted in investigators finding a dead man in the Paul Lake area.

Investigators with the MCU have now assumed conduct of the investigation, the news release said.

The dead man was identified as Dylan Thomas Godfrey during the initial investigation.

Police believe he was the victim of foul play.

“Investigators believe that Dylan Thomas Godfrey’s death was an isolated event and that no threat to the public exists,” said Staff Sergeant Jason Smart.

To further the investigation, the MCU is asking the public to review video or dash cam footage from Paul Lake Road, the Halston Connector or the North Shore.

Investigators are specifically looking for anything suspicious that may have been captured between April 23 at 6 am to April 25 at 7 am.

If your camera captured something suspicious that could be related to the investigation, you are asked to call the Southeast District Tip Line at 1-877-987-8477.

Anyone who talked to or interacted with Godfrey from April 14 onwards is asked to call the tipline.

This is the second time this week the MCU has announced it is investigating a death in a rural area near Kamloops.

On Monday, the unit said it was investigating after partial human remains were found in the Pendleton Creek area on April 11.
