The City of Kamloops is advising residents that major rehabilitation work on the Overlanders Bridge is getting underway this summer.
The work, which the city described as critical and essential, will address deteriorating surfaces on the bridge as well as the adjacent multi-use pathway.
Work will include removing and replacing concrete and asphalt through milling at select bridge joint locations and applying a sand-textured epoxy coating on the multi-use path to improve safety and durability.
A news release from the city says the work will run through to the fall time.
As of Monday, the city said traffic details are still being finalized but there are a few details known at this time.
“The project will require various lane closures as we work through the different phases of the project,” the city said.
“During all phases of the project, a minimum of two lanes will remain open to accommodate single-lane, two-way traffic to help minimize disruption.”
Motorists should prepare for delays and give themselves extra travel times.
Work on the multi-use path will happen alongside the bridge work, which will require a full closure.
Cyclists and pedestrians will need to use a designated detour route and follow all posted signage. Dates of the closure will be provided once the contractor finalizes those details.
More details on specific construction schedules, detour routes, and updates on lane changes will be announced by the city in the coming weeks.
