Mounties in Merritt and the Merritt BC Highway Patrol are reminding the public to slow down after catching a number of “excessive speeders” on Sunday.
“It's now May, the weather is warming and the snow is melting, but that doesn't mean you can speed,” said a spokesperson for the Merritt RCMP.
On May 1, the officers took eight drivers off the road and said one was traveling 187 km/h in a 110 km/h zone.
The Merritt RCMP and BC Highway Patrol remind drivers that if you are caught speeding, you could face a $368 or $483 fine and a seven day vehicle impound.
"Merritt doesn't have rental cars and the E-Bus is almost always fully booked", says Cst. Vickie Taylor with BC Highway Patrol.
"If you drive excessively and get towed, it's your responsibility to find your way home.”
