Missing man identified as victim of Kamloops homicide

Following an autopsy, the Kamloops RCMP has identified the man who was found dead inside a vehicle in the 1600 block of Monterey Place on St. Patrick’s Day.

Mohd Abdullah, 60, was reported missing on March 14 after he failed to show up for work and police have now confirmed that he was the victim of what is believed to be a homicide.

“We are sorry to confirm that Mr. Abdullah is the deceased person discovered last week,” said Sgt. Nestor Baird.

The identification of Abdullah, who was last seen three days before he was reported missing, is the latest development in this seemingly bizarre case.

On Monday, the RCMP announced that Kamloops lawyer Rogelio Butch Bagabuyo had been charged with indignity to human remains in connection to the investigation.

Police also continue to seek information on the movements of a white 2020 GMC rental van with company markings and logos, and BC plates PJ9131, in Kamloops and surrounding communities.

Baird explained that police felt it was essential to identify Abdullah in order to further the investigation and “capture all evidence” as quickly as possible.

The hope is that members of the public may have information or video surveillance footage related to Abdullah’s movements in the days leading up to his untimely death.

“Mohd usually travelled by foot or took public transit,” Baird noted. “We are releasing two images of Mohd getting off a bus in the downtown area on Friday, March 11.”

Investigators are seeking witnesses who may have seen Abdullah, a 5’8”, 126 lbs man with black hair and brown eyes, on that day or anytime afterwards prior to the discovery of his body on March 17.

Multiple RCMP agencies continue to work on this investigation, while the BC Coroners Service is conducting its own concurrent investigation.

Anyone with information that could assist investigators in this case are urged to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000.
