Missing woman and dog found safe on rural forest service road outside Kamloops

An elderly woman who went missing after leaving the grocery store on Thursday night has been found safely.

The Kamloops RCMP issued a media release Friday night about 81-year-old Diane Freeman.

She and her dog Banjo were reported missing by family members after not returning from a routine trip to the Save-On-Foods in the 1800 block of Tranquille Road..

Investigators confirmed she went inside the store and made a purchase around 5:15 pm Thursday, but she didn’t return home and had not been seen since.

Near the end of the weekend, police provided a happy update that Freeman and her dog Banjo were safe.

According to an RCMP release, the pair was found on a forest service road in a rural area outside of Kamloops on Sunday.

Police did not say how Freeman and her dog ended up in that location, but said the RCMP’s Air 4 helicopter was part of the reason they were found.

Freeman was taken to hospital for assessment and both she and Banjo have since been reunited with family.

Kamloops Mounties thanked the public, media and RCMP Air Services for assistance in the search.
