Motor vehicle incident knocks out power of over 2,000 residents in Westsyde

Thousands of residents in Westsyde were left without power overnight after an incident involving a power pole.

According to BC Hydro, a motor vehicle incident knocked out the power of 1,764 customers between Sandpiper Drive, Ida Lane and Hwy 5. That same incident also caused a power outage for 354 customers north of Halston Avenue on the Thompson Highway.

Power in both areas was off since 12:42 am. Crews were on-site early in the morning and estimated the power to return by 7:30 am.

As of now, the outage is still listed on BC Hydro's map, though some have reported the power is back on.
