Mounties in Williams Lake warn public about man linked to gang-related violence

Mounties in the Cariboo region have issued a public warning about an individual out of Williams Lake that is allegedly involved in gang activity.

In a news release, the RCMP say that Lashway Merritt “poses a risk to the residents of Williams Lake.”

“Due to the threat to the public posed by this individual through their connection to criminal activity and high level of violence, police believe that anyone associated or in close proximity to him may be putting themselves at risk,” say the William Lake RCMP.

“The Williams Lake RCMP is issuing a public warning and identifying him in order for family, friends, associates and the public to take measures to increase their own personal safety.”

According to the news release, Merritt was the victim of a shooting in 2022 which is believed to be gang related.

Mounties still believe he may be at risk of gang-related violence.

The Williams Lake RCMP urges the community and general public to report any information about recent violence or suspicious activity to their local police detachment by calling 911.
