After a long closure, the Mustard Seed Kamloops is set to reopen its live-in support program!
According to a social media post from the Mustard Seed, a 17-bed Men's Sober Living Centre will be set up at 181 West Victoria Street. This centre is to provide one year of support for men who have maintained at least one week of sobriety. It will also include employment opportunities, coaching and a wellness coordinator to facilitate transitioning from addiction to independent living.
“The program will be available on a first-come, first-served basis,” said Mario Borba, managing director or The Mustard Seed Kamloops. "We know there are a lot of people who are anxious to see this happen.”
Residents in the program will have a chance to attain their grade 12 diploma, experience volunteering, and be put through "Seed Academy training." Seed Academy is a four-week program designed to provide training and education including first aid, non-violent crisis intervention training, and WHMIS with the goal of helping men build their resumes and increase their chances of employment.
