A car wash is being proposed for the site of the former greyhound bus depot on Notre Dame Drive.
On Tuesday, Kamloops council will be considering the development application that would see the construction of the car wash once the lease for the Merit Place shelter ends in March 2025.
The applicant, Zen Group, says they would demolish the existing buildings and develop their business on the eastern side of the property at the corner of Laval Crescent and Notre Dame Drive. They indicate that they would leave the west side of the property to be developed in the future.
Currently, the property is zoned as I1S – Industrial Park, which allows for this type of development.
“To maintain traffic mobility along Notre Dame Drive, the primary access to the development is from Laval Crescent with a secondary right-in-only access from Notre Dame Drive,” says a staff report.
“These entrance points allow vehicles to access the car wash and future development site on the western side of the property.”
The developer is proposing the construction of a new sidewalk along Laval Crescent with a total of 16 parking spaces would be provided, which meets zoning regulations. There would be seven standard spots, one van accessible space and eight for the vacuums.
City staff are recommending that the development permit not be registered until the city secures the landscape security of $142,297.50.
Kamloops City Council will consider this project during the May 9 meeting, which starts at 1:30 pm.
