New year-round water restrictions under the City of Kamloops’ Water Use Restriction Plan are now in effect.
The restrictions apply to all customers who receive their water supply from the city’s potable water system, the city says in a news release issued Wednesday afternoon.
The new restrictions replace the odd/even model that was implemented seasonally.
Under the restriction plan, the normal stage is the default water restriction stage, which allows irrigation three days a week per property, the release explains.
According to the release, this stage remains in effect unless an elevated restriction stage is implemented by the city, which will be based on provincial drought levels.
If an elevated water restriction stage is declared, the city will notify all residents and the heightened restrictions will go into effect 24 hours after the announcement.
“Under the new watering schedule, the final digits of your legal street address will determine your allowable water use days,” the city says.
“For residents who reside in a complex or strata, the street address of the complex or strata will determine your appropriate watering day.”
According to the news release, the city’s preferred time for automated irrigation is between midnight and 7:00 am.
Additionally, Irrigation is not permitted on any day between the hours of 11:00 am and 7:00 pm.
Anyone who is caught not abiding by the new rules could face an initial fine of $100, with each subsequent fine being $200.
