According to a news release, a BC Builds site, which is owned by the Ministry of Citizens’ Services, has been zoned to support around 200 homes for people with middle incomes.
Proposals for housing are being sought for the second BC Build site, which will be located at 515 and 527 Columbia St.
Ravi Kahlon, the minister of housing, says many homes will be geared towards people with middle and low-to-moderate incomes.

“Through our Homes for People action plan, homes for people with middle and low-to-moderate incomes, and for people at risk of, or experiencing, homelessness are being delivered in Kamloops so people have a safe and affordable place to live,” Kahlon said.
In addition to the BC Builds site, two housing projects chosen through a recent intake of the Community Housing Fund will be located at 604 Lorne St. and 210 Oak Rd. and will include a total of 80 affordable homes.
Additionally, two modular housing buildings will be installed at 769-845 Mission Flats Road and will be available for homeless people. There will also be 98 units of supportive housing.
According to the news release, these will replace the 54 units of modular housing located at 805 Mission Flats Road.
“This transformational announcement for our community has been made possible through advocacy and partnership,” said Katie Neustaeter, deputy mayor of Kamloops, in the release.
“Unified in purpose, our city and the Province are forging pathways of progress; proving that together, we build futures filled with vision, warmth and a safe place to call home.”
In addition, a 40-bed, year-round shelter will be built at 1055 Glenfair Dr. and geared towards seniors and older adults experiencing homelessness.
The province is also working with community partners to open a “22-bed, second-stage transition house” in the community for women and children leaving violence.
Additionally, 100 Homeless Encampment Action Response Temporary Housing units are planned to be announced in the coming months.
