(Update - 9:30 am): Salmon Arm RCMP continues to investigate what caused a small plane crash at the Shuswap Regional Airport on Tuesday morning.
According to police, the single-engine Cessna was on its final approach to land when the engine stopped. As a result of the lack of power, the plane crash-landed at the north end of the runway just short of the asphalt.
The two occupants, a 71-year-old man and his 73-year-old wife, both suffered what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
Both occupants were transported to Interior hospitals for further examination. Salmon Arm RCMP continues to investigate.
(Original - August 26th ) A small plane crash this morning at the Shuswap Regional Airport has left two people injured.
According to Chris Krepski, Team Lead, Media Relations at the Transportation Safety Board, the crash occurred at 9 am when the aircraft fell short of the runway.
"At approximately 9 Pacific this morning, a privately registered Cessna 177 landed short of the runway at the north end of the airfield in Salmon Arm, BC," said Krepski.
Krepski adds that the two people aboard were assessed for minor injuries.
"There were two people aboard who were assessed for minor injuries."
Krepski went on to say that the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
"Too early to say. We received the notification and we will follow up to gather more information. It's not a full investigation as such, but we're going to gather some preliminary information and decide what we're going to do."
