National Hospitality Group has revealed plans for an upscale office building to be constructed in downtown Kamloops.
The Hotel 540 owner plans to build a six-storey office building at 580 Victoria St. The glass-faced building will be located immediately east of Hotel 540, a lot currently used for downtown parking.
National Hospitality Group says MQN Architects have created the LEED GOLD design, and the construction and design team have been assembled to start building per market demand.
“With north, east, and south facing full-height windows, this will be Kamloops’ first new downtown office tower in over 20 years,” NHP said in a media release. “Ample underground tenant and visitor parking will be included.”
Vice-president Bryan Pilbeam said the company has conducted feasibility studies to evaluate the demand for a new, modern office building in Kamloops and feedback has indicated a void for “forward thinking organizations.”
“It's going to be hopefully some new companies in Kamloops that are looking for that space combined with some existing companies that are looking for some modern contemporary office space," Pilbeam told NowMedia last week.
National Hospitality Group last week announced that KPMG will be taking over the former Lake City Casino location next to Hotel 540. The 13,000-square-foot space has been empty since the casino moved to Versatile Drive in 2015.
KPMG’s move to the 500 block of Victoria Street in September 2018 will kick off the major developments on the block. Pilbeam said National Hospitality Group would also like to build out the back three lots in future years.
“We believe our project will further enhance Kamloops’ vibrant downtown image,” he said in the announcement.
