Police and coroner investigating discovery of bones in Kamloops

An investigation is underway after bones were found in Kamloops on Thursday afternoon.

The RCMP was called out to an area above the 700 block of East Trans-Canada Highway, east of Peterson Creek, around 12:30 pm after the discovery was reported.

Officers arrived at the scene and contacted the coroner to attend as well.

“Right now, police are working with the BC Coroners Service to confirm if the bones are human and if so, who they belonged to,” said Cpl. Crystal Evelyn.

“From there, the investigation will continue into the circumstances surrounding their discovery.”

Anyone with information that could advance this investigation, or who may have come across any other bones in the area, is urged to contact the Kamloops detachment at 250-828-3000.

At this time, police are releasing no further information, but will update the situation when it’s possible to do so.
